Welcome to Bristol Empire Dragons
Founded in 2001, Bristol Empire Dragons began as a team sponsored by the Empire Sports Club, which inspired our name. Originally based at Ariel Rowing Club in St Anne’s, we moved to Saltford Rowing Club in 2014. Today, our home is the Rowing Centre on the River Avon, perfectly positioned between Bristol and Bath (postcode: BS31 3JN). With ample parking and access to full changing and toilet facilities, our base is the perfect place to train and race.
Our Club and Dragon Boat Racing in the UK
Our boathouse, located alongside the Rowing Club, houses a variety of boats, including kayaks and 20-person dragon boats. Across the UK, dragon boat clubs compete in exciting racing events throughout the year, with the National Dragon Boat Championships held annually at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. As part of the National Race Series, our team trains hard, races harder, and always pushes for success.

At Bristol Empire Dragons, we welcome paddlers of all ages and abilities – from absolute beginners to world-class athletes.

Have Fun – We are an amateur dragon boat racing team that competes at a national level. While we train with passion and race with determination, our top priority is to enjoy the journey together.

Commitment – As a small but dedicated club, we rely on our paddlers to train consistently and push their limits. We believe in making fitness fun while encouraging every member to give their best effort.

Recruitment – We are actively looking for new team members! We encourage paddlers to invite friends and help grow our dragon boat community. Newcomers are welcome to try a few sessions for free before committing to full membership.

If you are looking for Bristol water sports, you can join our club. Almost ANYONE can participate in this sport. We simply ask you to wear club supplied buoyany aids, if you are a non swimmer. Our youngest members are in their teens and eldest are pensioners. They can all share a seat on boat and bring along the children who can either enjoy the ride or bang the drums!!
